Just a Spoonful of Giggle

Remember the Mary Poppins movie? One of my favorite numbers was “I Love To Laugh” – it showed different people’s styles of laughing.

I love to laugh – what a great tension release. I laugh a lot. Most of the time, I laugh at myself. I’ve found when I look for funny things I do, it makes daily-ness more enjoyable. I also laugh at jokes, clean comedy and life’s strange occurrences. I try to find humor wherever I am. As believers, we have many reasons to be happy, even joyful. Jesus has given us a lot to be joyful about: Jesus has conquered the power of the grave – He has overcome death.

If you have lost a loved one who knew Jesus Christ as their personal savior, you know what a comfort this is! John 16:33 says “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have perfect peace and confidence. In the world you will have tribulation and trials and distress and frustration; but be of good cheer! For I have overcome the world.”

Wow – those words are not only true, they also encourage me with the fact that Jesus wants us to be courageous, confident and certain that He has deprived the world of its power to harm us. Jesus has conquered the world for us.

A joyful person is also healthy – spiritually, emotionally, and physically. This happens when you fill your mind with thankful thoughts until your heart overflows with thanksgiving, praise and joy. We are designed to be filled with these heavenly contents to bring life and hope to the world. Proverbs 17:22 says, “A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.” Take a few minutes and watch the Mary Poppins “I Love To Laugh” video and in just a few minutes, you will feel much better.

Let’s pray. “Father, thank You for overcoming the world through sending Your Son to conquer the grave. Thank You for giving me joy through praise and thanksgiving. Thank You that neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate me from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.”
